Gewürztraminer
Also called Traminer, Traminer Aromatico.
The aromatic white of Alto Adige, giving lychee, rose petal and ginger over low acid and a full body. It is grown across the region and at its best on the warmer sites around the village of Termeno. Handled badly it turns oily and heavy, and handled well it is one of the region's signatures.
Worth knowing
The name points at Termeno, Tramin in German, which sits on the wine road south of Bolzano. Whether the village gave its name to the grape or the other way round has been argued for a long time, and the village is not neutral on the question.
