Lambrusco Salamino

Also called Salamino.

The most planted of the Lambrusco family, grown across the plain north of Modena. It gives more colour and more body than Sorbara and stays lively, with black cherry, violets and a foam that settles fast. Made dry it is a proper food wine, and the sweeter versions are what gave the name its bad reputation abroad.

Worth knowing

The name is from the bunch, which is small, tight and shaped like a little salame. Growers plant it alongside Lambrusco di Sorbara because Sorbara cannot pollinate itself reliably and drops a lot of its crop without a neighbour.
