Reggiano DOC
The largest Lambrusco DOC by volume and the source of most of the sweet, dark, supermarket Lambrusco that flooded the US in the 1970s. Blends of Salamino, Marani, Maestri and Ancellotta give a deep purple wine with blackberry, plum, violet and a soft mousse, ranging from dry to fully sweet. Medici Ermete's Concerto proved in the 2000s that the zone can make serious, dry, single-vineyard Lambrusco with tannin and length. Venturini Baldini and Lini 910 also make dry versions worth seeking.
