Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera DOC
The name means roughly 'take out and put in,' from the old sharecroppers' habit of emptying the fermenting vat and refilling it for the next family. It is a field blend of Nero di Troia, Montepulciano and a required share of white grapes, so the wine is medium bodied and bright, with sour cherry, red plum, dried herbs and a peppery lift, soft tannins and refreshing acidity. A rustic, characterful red for grilled lamb rather than a cellar wine.
