Malvasia Nera

A red Malvasia grown mostly in Puglia and Basilicata, where it is blended with Negroamaro and Primitivo in small proportions. It brings perfume, a rose and violet lift, and softness, against grapes that supply the weight. On its own it makes a light, aromatic red.

Worth knowing

Several different red Malvasias go by this name, including distinct versions from Brindisi, Lecce and Basilicata. The appellation rules usually just say Malvasia Nera, which leaves the grower to decide which one that means.
