Napoleon's island, with vines on granite, iron ore and schist under strong sea wind. The whites are the point: Ansonica gives golden, textured, saline wines with ripe pear and almond, and Vermentino gives something crisper with lemon and sage. Reds are Sangiovese-based and light; Elba Rosso Riserva can be surprisingly savory. Production is small and mostly drunk by tourists on the island.
