Grance Senesi DOC
No strip issued. I'm still hunting a bottle.
A young DOC in the clay badlands of the Crete Senesi southeast of Siena, named for the medieval grange farms of Siena's hospital. Only five or so producers use it, including the abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore and Castello di Modanella. Reds are Sangiovese blends with Cabernet and Merlot, ripe and earthy with plum, tobacco and dusty tannin; the Malvasia-based white is a local curiosity. Nobody exports it.
