I Terreni di Sanseverino DOC
A tiny DOC around the town of San Severino Marche with two identities: Rosso, a Montepulciano and Sangiovese blend, and Moro, made from at least 60 percent Vernaccia Nera, often with a portion of dried grapes in the passito version. The Moro style is the point: deep color, blackberry, black pepper, dried fig and a bitter, tannic finish, sometimes off-dry. Production is minuscule, with a handful of producers such as Vini di Cagnore and Colleluce. Essentially a local curiosity you'll have to hunt for in Italy.
