Pomino DOC
A cool, high (up to 700 m) enclave that Vittorio degli Albizi planted with French grapes in the 1850s, and today almost entirely the property of Frescobaldi's Castello di Pomino. The whites are the point: Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco with green apple, white peach, hazelnut and a fresh, mineral finish, and the Benefizio Riserva is a barrel-fermented Chardonnay that ages well. The reds blend Pinot Nero and Sangiovese into something lighter and more aromatic than most Tuscan reds. Traditional-method sparkling and Vin Santo round it out.
