Valdinievole DOC
The valley between Lucca and Pistoia, better known for flowers and spa towns than for wine; the DOC started as a Trebbiano white and was widened in 2011 to include reds and rosato. The whites are light, lemony and almondy; the Sangiovese reds are simple, tart and cherry-scented. Vin Santo is the traditional product and the one locals value. A few family farms bottle it and none of it is exported.
