Bianchetta

Also called Bianchetta Trevigiana.

A Veneto white, properly Bianchetta Trevigiana, permitted in small amounts in Prosecco and grown in the hills around Treviso and Conegliano. It ripens early, holds its acid well and gives a light, neutral wine with a faintly bitter finish and very little aroma of its own.

Worth knowing

It is unrelated to Bianchetta Genovese in Liguria despite the shared name. Its role in Prosecco is to add freshness in warm years, and like Perera and Verdiso it has been receding since the appellation became a global product.
