Colli Altotiberini DOC

The northernmost Umbrian DOC, in the cool upper Tiber valley on the Tuscan border. The reds are Sangiovese-led, often with Merlot or Cabernet, and come out mid-weight with red cherry, dried herbs, earthy tannin and fresh acidity; the whites are simple Trebbiano and Grechetto blends. Production is tiny, dominated by a few estates such as Colle del Sole and Fanini, and the wines are sold locally and in Tuscany. It's one of the least seen DOCs in central Italy.
