Colli del Trasimeno (Trasimeno) DOC
The story here is Gamay del Trasimeno, which is not Gamay at all but Grenache, brought to the lake centuries ago, probably via Spain or Sardinia. From old bush vines it gives a mid-weight red with raspberry, wild strawberry, white pepper, dried herbs and soft tannin, more Cannonau than Beaujolais. The blended Rosso is Sangiovese-based and pleasant, and the Grechetto whites are nutty and round. Madrevite, Montemelino and the Duca della Corgna cooperative are the names; a few reach the US through small natural-wine importers.
