Colline Joniche Tarantine DOC
A recent DOC covering the limestone hills above the Ionian coast west of Taranto, an area that was mostly bulk wine and olive country. It is unusual in giving Cabernet Sauvignon a starring role in the rosso alongside Primitivo, so the reds are dark, ripe and plush with blackberry, cassis and cocoa, and the whites are simple Chardonnay or Verdeca. Almost nobody bottles under the name; most estates in the zone prefer Primitivo di Manduria or Salento IGT.
