Contea di Sclafani DOC
Effectively the house DOC of Tasca d'Almerita's Regaleali estate, at 400 to 900 meters in the cool Sicilian interior. The best known wine is Rosso del Conte, a Nero d'Avola and Perricone blend first made in 1970 that shows black cherry, tobacco, dried herbs, cocoa and firm but ripe tannin, ageing twenty years. Whites from Inzolia and Catarratto are brisk and mineral thanks to the altitude. Tasca has moved many labels to Sicilia DOC, but the top wines still carry Contea di Sclafani.
