Friuli Latisana DOC

The southwestern corner of Friuli's coastal plain, on heavier clay and sand near the Tagliamento's mouth, where red grapes ripen easily. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Refosco are the volume wines: soft, fruity, with plum, green pepper and a light tannic frame, made to drink young. Whites are correspondingly fresh and simple. Almost all producers now use Friuli DOC, so the Latisana name is nearly extinct on labels outside the zone itself.
