Sant'Antimo DOC
No strip issued. I'm still hunting a bottle.
Montalcino's catch-all DOC, created so Brunello estates could bottle their Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay and super-Tuscan blends with a Montalcino-linked name instead of plain IGT. The reds are ripe and international in style: cassis, black plum, cedar and vanilla, full-bodied with polished tannin. Banfi's Summus and Excelsus and Col d'Orcia's Olmaia are the flagships. Many estates have since drifted back to Toscana IGT, so the DOC is less used than it was.
