Red
Greco Nero
A red grown across Calabria and into Sicily, usually as a blending partner for Gaglioppo and Magliocco. It gives moderate colour, soft tannin and a herbal, red fruited character. It is rarely the point of a wine and it is in the rules of a good number of southern appellations.
Worth knowing
Several distinct red varieties in the south carry the Greco Nero name, and they are not all the same vine. The name marks an assumed Greek origin that in most cases has never been demonstrated.
