Gioia del Colle DOC

The other great Primitivo zone, and the more elegant one: vineyards sit at 350 to 500 meters on limestone, giving Primitivo with real acidity and lift compared with the sun baked wines of Manduria. Expect black cherry, raspberry, mulberry, wild herbs, licorice and a mineral, slightly bloody savoriness, with 14 to 16% alcohol carried by freshness and fine tannin. Polvanera, Chiaromonte and Fatalone are the estates that made the zone's reputation, and their top wines age for a decade or more.
