White

Verdiso

A white of the Conegliano and Asolo hills, historically the sharp component in Prosecco before Glera took the whole crop. It gives very high acid and a green apple, herbal character, and it survives in small amounts as a permitted minority partner.

Worth knowing

It used to be the acid backbone of the local sparkling wine. As the Prosecco boom pushed growers to plant Glera on every available slope, Verdiso became a rounding error in the rules, which is the fate of most grapes that share an appellation with a commercial success.
