Glera
Also called Serprino.
Prosecco. A high yielding, high acid, low aroma white grown across a large stretch of the Veneto and Friuli, from the flat land of the plain up to the steep hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene. Fermented in tank to keep the fresh pear and white flower character, it makes a wine meant to be drunk within a year of the vintage.
Worth knowing
The grape used to be called Prosecco. In 2009 it was renamed Glera and the name Prosecco was tied to a place instead, which stopped anyone outside the zone from planting the variety and calling the result Prosecco. It is the single most effective piece of naming strategy in modern wine.
