A marketing driven DOC created in 2011 to put the word Roma on a label, covering nearly the whole province. The reds are the useful part: Montepulciano based blends with Cesanese and Syrah, giving dark plum, black cherry, licorice and soft, ripe tannin, in a modern polished style. The whites lean on Malvasia Puntinata, the local Malvasia, with peach, orange blossom and almond. Poggio Le Volpi's Roma Rosso is the bottle that made the DOC visible abroad.
