Bombino Bianco
Also called Bombino, Bonvino, Ottonese, Pampanuto.
A Puglian white grown in quantity across the north of the region, high yielding and high in acid with very little aroma. Made carelessly it is water. Made with low yields on the right site it gives a lean, citrus and chamomile wine with a stony finish that ages better than anyone expects.
Worth knowing
A good deal of what is planted and sold as Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is actually Bombino Bianco. The two have been confused in the vineyard for generations, and untangling which vine is in which row of an old Abruzzese vineyard is still a live question.
