Torgiano DOC

Umbria's first DOC, and again essentially the Lungarotti estate's appellation. Torgiano Rosso, sold as Rubesco, is a Sangiovese-Canaiolo blend aged in oak: sour cherry, plum, dried herbs, tobacco and moderate tannin, a Chianti-like red that has been a US import staple since the 1970s. Torgiano Bianco, sold as Torre di Giano, is a Trebbiano-Grechetto blend, fresh and lightly nutty. The riserva red was promoted to its own DOCG in 1990. Reliable, well priced and easy to find.
