Monferrato DOC
No strip issued. I'm still hunting a bottle.
The big regional DOC of the Monferrato hills, used by producers for blends and international-variety wines that don't fit Barbera d'Asti or the varietal DOCs. Monferrato Rosso ranges from cheap fruity Barbera-Merlot blends to serious, oak-aged cuvées like Vietti's or Michele Chiarlo's. Monferrato Nebbiolo is a newer category giving softer, earlier-drinking nebbiolo from Asti's sandy hills. Expect wide variation; read the back label for the blend.
