Colli Etruschi Viterbesi (Tuscia) DOC
The provincial catch-all for Tuscia, the volcanic Etruscan country of northern Lazio, now also labeled simply Tuscia. It allows almost everything, but the wines worth seeking are the Grechetto whites, which share the Orvieto and Civitella d'Agliano character just across the border: green apple, fennel, chamomile, a waxy texture and a bitter almond finish. The reds are mostly Sangiovese and Montepulciano blends, medium bodied and earthy.
